Niall made a post about plastic bottles, and inside that article it talked about Sigg Bottles. They’re basically an aluminum water bottle, sort of like a thermos, except they look really cool. I figure what the heck, I take a new plastic bottle to work every day, and at $3.50 a flat of water, if buying a $25 sweet bottle will help me not use plastic bottles and save money, then it’s worth it. And I’m thinking the aluminum will help keep the water cooler a lot longer, and this way when other people at work also buy Stater Bros water I won’t have to put an N on the lid. So hopefully I refill it everyday and take it to work, look cool in the process, save money after 6 months, and help the environment. Here’s the one I ordered:

I’d also like to advertise a new online money sending site called Revolution Money Exchange. It’s like Paypal, but a better deal. My brother put it on his site, but I’m trying to steal his thunder and get you to sign up and refer me. You get $25 just for signing up, so get on it!

Baby Birthdate Pool?

Paddy gave me the idea today to start a pool for the birth of our child, and the wheels started turning. At first I thought I’d start a thread, and people could start guessing…but that seemed boring.

Instead, what if there is a wager!? My initial thoughts are as follows. Everyone can get in the pool for $5. The winning guess gets half, and the baby gets the other half (breast pumps are expensive! haha). Here’s how the guessing would work: Everyone would guess both a DATE and TIME on the hour. So for example, you could guess March 21st (the due date) at 5 pm. No 5:12 pm and 14 seconds nonsense. Then whoever is closest to the actual time of birth wins.

So who is interested? Five bucks seems reasonable. We could do paypal, you could hand me five dollars, or you could send me a $5 bill wrapped in a piece of paper through the mail (seems safe enough). How many takers before I make this official?

Edit: I suppose it could also be that the winner gets everything. I’ve never done a pool, so whatever people say goes. And yes Trent, the doctor says the due date is March 21st. They haven’t given us an update, and I think at this point, if they do, we’ll have to keep that a secret so the game stays fair.

My Cockamamie Scheming

When I get something in my head it’s really hard to get it out. Usually this is tied to desiring new technology or something of that nature. Luckily I have a wife who tempers that urge to buy every new gadget the minute I want it. Sometimes that means I don’t get it, or instead I think of inane arrangements to justify my purchase.

The wheels in my brain are still spinning about wanting to play the latest and greatest baseball game on PS3, so I start to find all these ways to pay for it, without actually spending money, which of course is ludicrous. But it sounds like it’s not costing any money, which is the genious of my plan. You might remember my WoW fast back in ’04. I could pull a similar stunt here, but it would take a while. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

$60 – Money left in my old Wamu checking account that’s been there since we got married.

$170 – Money I made at school doing supervision, like watching kids on my lunch break. (This is above and beyond my regular pay, so it’s easy to argue that I can do whatever I want with it, like buy videogames.) :)

$80 – Money in my paypal account from selling the old Gamecube (which was supposed to pay for the Wii. Shhhh!)

$50 – Approximate money I could get from selling my original Xbox since I wouldn’t need it anymore.

$27 – Money I could get from selling Zelda: Twilight Princess. (I tried to play it over the weekend, and I almost went insane it’s so boring. But my new found distaste for adventure games is another post entirely.)

Sub-Total: $387
Remaining: $313

I’m still well shy of my $700 target. I’ve made almost $250 on my Nintendo stock, but I’m not sure I can justify including that in my scheme.

Time to look around the house for stuff to sell. :)
