The Olympics

The Olympics start today and I’m excited. We’ve watched all the olympic trials that were on TV so that we’d be familiar with the athletes. I could have sworn I heard NBC say something about broadcasting the Olympics live, but I can’t find anything about that online. The opening ceremonies are already super delayed, so I assume most of it will be. I will be going on a media blackout so nothing gets ruined, much like I did four years ago when I started my blog.

We’ve cleared off the DVR completely in anticipation of having LOTS of stuff to record. Some days are there are 12 hours of events just on NBC. I’m sure we won’t watch everything, but there should be plenty to skip through.

I just got done watching a scary clown marching band play YMCA by the Village People in Italy. This confirms my beliefs that the closing ceremonies are entirely unnecessary.

I was able to sit through much of the opening ceremonies. First off they were broadcast in HD, and that is still cool enough to hold my attention. The second reason is that after the opening ceremonies, I know I will get to watch all sorts of cool Olympic sports. The closing ceremonies on the other hand promise nothing afterwards. Am I supposed to watch them so I can have closure? I’m not sure why I’m supposed to watch them, because it certainly isn’t for the entertaining value of the closing ceremonies themselves.

Now I’m being forced to watch Dancing With the Stars. AHHHHHHH! I can’t complain too much though, Stacie did let me stay up last night and watch Saw 2 when she went to bed. :)
