Roadtrip Pictures

I posted daily during the roadtrip, but you never got to see any pictures! We’ve ordered them and made an album, but in case you don’t come over to look at it, here are a few of my favorites.

This is somewhere near the Idaho/Wyoming border heading to the Grand Tetons. Beautiful hills covered in wheat!

This is at one of the lakes in the Grand Teton National Park.

This is at the West Thumb in Yellowstone, one of the many hot springs. I love the colors.

So I don’t break the frontpage of the Blarg, you have to click the link after this to see the rest.

Day 10: John Day Fossil Beds

Today we drove through the John Day Fossil Beds as me made our way South through Oregon. The John Day Fossil Beds are a National Monument, but probably one you’ve never heard of. It was on the way, so we decided to check it out. It was very pretty and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Here is a great picture of what we saw. Well worth the stop.

Tonight we’re in La Pine, OR, a short drive from Crater Lake and Klamath Lake where we’ll be driving to tomorrow.

Today we made our way to an off the beaten path town called John Day, OR. The main reason we came here is because it’s on our way to Crater Lake in southern Oregon.

This is a small town of 1,800 people, and it’s really interesting. There’s an old church built at the turn of the century. In the mid to late 1800′s people came here to mine gold, and that’s the sole reason this town exists.

We ate at a local restaurant last night, and even that was neat. The waitress that served us had be in her late 30′s, and she identified herself as the “new girl.” What circumstances in your life have made you the new waitress at a local joint in a town of 1,800 people…who knows. At first we were the only people there, but by the time we left, the place was packed. I’m guessing 80% of the people were tourists, but things were buzzing. After dinner we got a blizzard at the Dairy Queen.

Tomorrow (Sunday) we’re on our way towards La Pine, OR, which is another stop on our way to Crater Lake. On the way we’ll be checking out the John Day Fossil Beds. Hope everyone is doing well.

The Big One

We’re back from our cruise nice and early. A post on that will be coming soon. Now it’s time to think about our long trip coming up in a week. Here’s an updated map of where we will be going.

Anything with a yellow box indicates a stop. Only a few changes from the last map. We’ll be heading through Oregon in a way that takes us by the John Day Fossil Beds which look interesting. We’ll also be heading down the California coast to see some beautiful Redwoods up near the top of the state.

Any recommendations for sites along the way are welcome.
