Back to Work

I will be in bed by 10:30 pm and back to work tomorrow. I might even throw on a tie to scare the little boogers. The tie demands respect! Good luck to everyone else going back to school for the educational value.

Update: I pulled out all the stops and wore the tie! I need to buy some new Dockers because the ones I have are only a 30 waist which is kinda tight. Even if I dress nice I still need to be comfortable. I have a problem with dress shirts though because I’m so lanky. They all tend to be really baggy and puffy on me, and I don’t like that. Enough about my wardrobe.

First day went fine and I’m sure this year will be just as good as the last, but I’m going for better. I’m putting a strong emphasis on being organized this year, and especially up front. I think that putting in the extra effort to implement procedures the first 2-3 weeks can make the rest of your year way easier. It might take more work to begin with, but come May it will be nice to not have kids ask if they can throw away their trash. The answer is no by the way. Kids love to crumple up papers in the middle of a lesson for no apparent reason and then think they should be able to get up and throw it away.

Hope everyone else had a good first day back, crazy High Schoolers included.

First Week of Class

Unlike all you sad Junior Highers and High Schoolers, I didn’t have to go back to school until this last week. My classes seem ok…not too hard, but not that exciting either. One of my classes is called Adolescent Development, so I’m going to learn all about you guys, haha. I just bought my books online used and saved $90 over the bookstore, which was sweeet.

I was bored so I sold a bunch of stuff on Ebay. I sold my old cell phone, and all my dreamcast and n64 stuff. I know I know….”nathan, how could you sell videogames!?!? ahhhhh!” Truth is I haven’t played them in forever, and they just take up space. Who knows, maybe in 30 years I’ll regret it…but they’d all be broken in 30 years anyways, haha. And in 30 years they’ll all be perfectly emulated on a PC. :D

I’m still sick, but not quite as bad as a day or two ago. I’ve come to accept that colds come on quickly, but never leave in the same fashion. I figure I’ll be carrying around some sniffles for at least another 4-5 days. That’s how it has seemed to work in the past.

Ok, I’m going to go mail my Dreamcast, and then sit at Quiznos in the rain reading my book.

Conversing with Students

So last night I didn’t get home from school til 10 pm and I was beat. I sat down at the computer only to be met by a barrage of questions from 3 high schoolers. Just to give you a little background, I’d been editing a video earlier in the day at church, and they didn’t like something I’d cut out. Mind you, the video isn’t even DONE yet, but I guess just one day into the school year they have nothing better to do. So after a few minutes of explaining myself, I decided that I don’t have to explain myself to them. I then proceeded to remove every high schooler and junior higher from my buddy list.

High Schoolers are so finnicky. One moment they’ll lose their temper, tell me to shut up, they’ll never apologize for their childish tirade…and then expect me to talk to them like it’s my duty. Or what’s with just saying “sup” and not having a single thing to talk about? I don’t care if you just got out of the shower, or if you’re drinking a soda. There’s a reason no one uses these as topics of conversation in person: they’re boring!

I can already hear their blood curtling screams. “You’re so mean,” or “I hate you anyways,” blah blah blah. I can only think of ONE high schooler who has asked me a question with any relevance (you rule Conner). Everyone else, if getting tired of answering the question “what are you doing?” every two minutes makes me a horrible person, then so be it.

Update:

Suprisingly I’ve only gotten apologies from students. I’m sure some will still be mad, but to those of you that have given me kind words, I appreciate it. You show maturity, and I have no problem talking to you guys online.
