Hungry for a “Feast”

feast for crowsA Feast for Crows is almost here. After placing my order back on May 31st, the book is only a day or two away. It was originally slated to come out in July, but was pushed back until a few days ago. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for USPS to move the darned the thing to my house.

I started the Song of Fire and Ice series back in January, at which point the first 3 books had been released. I really feel for the people that have been with this series from the beginning. I only had to wait since May for book 4, but some people have been waiting FIVE years. I’ve seen mixed reviews of book 4, but I think it’s understandable. The book was creeping over 1300 pages, so Martin decided to split the book into two volumes. This means half the characters are not even addressed in Crows. The good news is that book 5 should be out in a much more timely manner, since it is mostly written.

Now if only I had enough time to read it when it finally gets here.

Rising Stars Is Here!

Back in August I posted about a cool comic book I ordered from Amazon, and it finally came! It’s called Rising Stars. Turns out the publish date was pushed back, so that’s why I had to wait. The book is really high quality, and I’m loving it. Hardbound, a cloth thingy to keep your place, and every page is packed with beautiful color printing and story.

Another book I’m dying to read is almost here: A Feast for Crows. This is book 4 in the Song of Fire and Ice series, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that the series stays strong. I wanted to read the first 3 books again, but I only got a quarter of the way through book one. :) Oh well, after book 4 comes out I’ll have plenty of time to read them all over again!

A Song of Fire and Ice!

I’m halfway done with George R.R. Martin’s series A Song of Fire and Ice! I just finished book 3, A Storm of Swords, and it’s still great. I’ve read about some other series that start to falter part way through, but this one is staying strong. If you missed my other warnings, this book series is definitly rated R with a lot of violence and a fair amount of sex…but it’s so enthralling. The next book comes out on July 26th, so I have to keep myself entertained until then. I’ve got a couple Michael Crichton books I haven’t read, so they should do. Time to find another good fantasy series. I should actually read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, since I haven’t quite finished them before. Then I can call myself a true fan of fantasy. :)

I forgot to mention this, but I finished the second book in A Song of Fire and Ice series. I started book 3…it’s over 1000 pages. :) I’ll post a review of the second book soon. In the meantime though I have to read a dumb young adult book for my adolescent development class.

I’m crossing my fingers that I passed the algebra CSET test…because tomorrow I start studying for the geometry test. Everything I learned about algebra will begin to go down the toilet.

Stacie and I booked our hotels and airfare for our whole honeymoon. That’s cool.

I’m now 27-31 in MVP Baseball 2005. I’ve been doing really well lately and probably need to bump up the difficulty, but I’m waiting until I reach .500. Hee-Sop is doing well, but Yhency is horrible. I demoted him to AAA. Scott Erickson was called up to replace Ishii too.

I just had a conversation with Paddy about how gaim is better than aim. His profile looked broken, and the following ensued:

Yup2That: b/c you use gay aim
nathan118: how are your ads?
nathan118: taking up half your screen? mmmm
nathan118: gay themes everywhere
nathan118: driving you nuts with big flashing eagles and crap
Yup2That: what?
Yup2That: they are not taking half my screen
nathan118: and the newest harry potter movie everywhere sending gay icons to you
Yup2That: it is taking the space of one buddy icon
nathan118: and dumb colors everywhere like some idiot broke their aim colors
nathan118: and stupid messages like “accept this gay buddy icon??????”
Yup2That: right
Yup2That: i’m going
Yup2That: see ya sunday
nathan118: ok aim

I so won. He was beyond confused to the point of sleep. There is no better way to defeat your opponent than by sheer confusion and idiocy. Yesssss!

I just finished the first book in George R.R. Martin’s series, A Song of Fire and Ice, called A Game of Thrones, and it was amazing. Start to finish it was a great read, and very difficult to put down. I think there is a certain stigma attached to the entire fantasy genre, like it’s all dorky elves and crystall balls and stuff only nerds can like. The book is really quite accessible though to non-fantasy lovers. It’s very medieval with Kings, Queens, Knights, succession to the various thrones, battles between families and nations. I think the only aspect that makes it fantasy is that it’s a made up world in a made up time, much like The Lord of the Rings. I can’t recommend this book enough.

Now I can start the next book in the series, A Clash of Kings, which is even longer than the first at 768 pages (A Game of Thrones is just over 700). There are many unanswered questions and potential plot twists, it should be interesting. Then I have book 3 to read, A Storm of Swords, which is a whopping 992 pages! Then book 4 should be out sometime this year, which will easily be over 1000 pages. A good book is like a good movie…as long as it’s made up of good stuff, it can be as long as it wants!
