Baseball, Debris, and Baby

This morning I played a game of online baseball on the PS3 and it lasted for 18 innings. I was losing to the Angels 3-0 in the 8th inning, but my Dodgers put up 3 runs to tie it. From there it stayed tied until the 18th inning. Brad Penny came in for relief and pitched almost an entire game. In the bottom of the 18th Jeff Kent came up and knocked one over the wall to win the game. Very satisfying feeling! You can check the box score here.

On the way home we were driving on the freeway, and traffic was moving really well. Then the guy in front of me started to brake and put on his turn signal. Then at the last minute he swerved to avoid some debris in our lane, leaving me ZERO time to get out of the way. If you see something in the road a long ways out, don’t swerve at the last minute. He could have stopped completely! But no, I got to hit some remnants of a bumper or something and get nice big scratches on the front of the new car. Ugh. Now I’ve got to take it in to the body shop for something small and pay my $250 deductible. Turd.

In better news, the baby’s room is moving along. Everything is painted and I put up new blinds. Our stroller is on the way from Target that we bought with gift cards from Grandpa. We still need to pick out baby furniture, but Stacie has seen some that she likes. She went yesterday with a friend and registered for a bunch of stuff at Babies R Us. You can visit our baby’s registry here!

Dodger Game #3

Can you say SWEEP?!

Today I went out to the ballpark to celebrate Tim’s waning days of freedom. Luckily for us the Dodgers continued to play some great baseball. Unfortunately for us it was HOT! I remember it being hot last year for my bachelor party, but the humidity today was insane. Today we were on the 3rd base side out near the foul pole, so I spent much of my time harrasing Andre Ethier for a ball. I was not successful. Brad Penny did so-so, but the bats were still hot and helped us win our 4th in a row.

Good luck Tim and Melissa!

Dodger Game #2

We were back at Chavez Ravine for game 2 of the weekend series with the Pirates. Once again the Dodgers beat the Pirates into the ground winning 7-0. Aaron Sele pitched a great game, and the relief was effective. Andre Ethier came up with two key singles giving him 4 rbi. This guy is the real deal. It also looks like Jeff Kent is finally healthy and ready to contribute in the fashion we’re used to.

Up next is Brad Penny versus some guy with a 16 ERA.

Dodger Caravan 2006

Today at work the Dodger Caravan came to visit. To my amazement, every person that said they were coming showed up. I expected people to be convientely sick that day. Here is a picture of all the people in attendance:

Dodger Caravan 2006

From left to right: Jaime Jarrin, Steve Garvey, Ned Colletti, Don Newcombe, Brad Penny, D.J. Houlton, Maury Wills, Brett Tomko, Charlie Steiner, Eddie Murray, Grady Little and Willie Davis is off to the side of him.

They gave the kids some free towels that said Dodgers on them, and then they went down the line and let everyone say a little something. Grady Little was funny…he told a story about how he wanted to drive his Dad’s car when he was in High School, but his Dad said not until he cut his long hair. Little pointed at a picture of Jesus in the house and said "But Jesus has long hair," to which his Dad replied "He also walked a lot." Brad Penny unfortunately had a cold and couldn’t speak, which is total horse poop. The guy couldn’t even muster a "Thanks for having us, see you at the ballpark." Later on they had a question and answer session, and when a kid asked a question for Penny he just stood there and shook his head. How lame is that. Someone asked Tomko what his favorite pitch is, and he replied "whatever doesn’t get hit." Another funny question from a student was "Are you going to get back Paul Lo Duca," which Steiner let Colleti handle. He said they pursued him, but couldn’t make anything work, supposedly.

Overall it was a really cool assembly, and really neat to see so many famous Dodgers all in one place. This really gets me pumped for the upcoming season. GO DODGERS!

The Final Walk Through…

Stacie and I are going to walk through our townhouse in an hour the last time before it’s ours! We have to make sure it’s the same place we bought, i.e. they didn’t tear out any walls, or paint the ceilings black, etc. Much of my time of recent is spent obsessing over what TV to buy, so I’ll be measuring the approximate viewing distance in our living room; a vital piece of information when selecting the proper screen size.

I only have 75 pages left in the 3rd book of the George R.R. Martin series I’m reading. The 4th book isn’t scheduled to come out until late July, so I’ll have to find something else to keep me occuppied. There are a couple Michael Crichton books I haven’t read yet, so I’ll probably read those. I fear I’ve read the best fantasy series ever first, and all others will pale in comparison.

I’ve yet to mention the Dodgers in my blarg for fear of jinxing them, but that is no longer a fear. At 12-3 they’re off to an amazing start, but baseball is more like a marathon than any other sport, aside from a marathon. Brad Penny is scheduled to start on Sunday, with other key players returning from injuries shortly after. The best will just get better. :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Eat some peas.

Oh My Poor Dodgers!

Comments off

Well, the Dodgers are sure gonna make the last couple weeks of baseball’s regular season exciting. In losing fashion, the Dodgers have let the Giants within a half game of the NL West lead. To make things worse, it looks like Brad Penny is still hurt and going to do us no good. Oh well, let’s hope the Dodgers can climb out of the slump just in time to woop the Giants. I really wish I had Fox Sports right now.
