The Blarg Goes Mobile

Since I’ve been using an Android phone, I’ve grown to appreciate websites designed with mobile users in mind. There are a lot of options available for WordPress, but I decided to give WordPress Touch a try, and so far I really like it. I’m looking to move to a new theme here also. This theme was designed for something like WordPress 1.5.

If you’ve got a smartphone (iPhone, Android, etc), then head on over to www.theblarg.com to see the new mobile layout. You can even login, leave comments, and all that good stuff. To login, hit the little arrow in the top right.

If all goes according to plan, this blog post should show up automatically on Facebook. Since not that many people use RSS feeds to check and see if blogs get updated, this is a great way to let everyone on Facebook know that I’ve updated the blog.

Our Future…

This is a very special post, because it is number 1000 here on the blarg. Can you believe it? One thousand different posts in just under five years. I’ve certainly slowed down now that I have Luke…but still, that’s hard to believe. Since it’s such a monumental post I thought, what better to write about than our family’s future.

I don’t know about most of you, but I try and strike a healthy balance of planning for the future, but enjoying the present. If I spend all my time thinking about the future, I won’t enjoy the awesome moments of life right now, but if I only live in the present, I might not be adequately prepared for the future.

A person could go nuts checking home prices everyday and recalculating projected savings. Throw on top of that planning for future children, if we’ll have enough room for them, how old we’re getting, and it’s all a lot to think about.

We know we can’t stay in our current place forever, but in the meantime it’s great. It’s just the right size for us, and we could probably survive here with a second child for a while. But eventually we’d like to move areas…perhaps to the Los Alamitos or Cypress area…or Huntington Beach or Fullerton if we wanted to go farther. Just like my parents moved us to a better area when we were younger, we want to do the same for our kids. It’d be nice to be able to park a car outside and not have to worry if something will happen to it, or live in a district with public schools we’d be happy to send our kids to.

My guess is another three years or so and we’ll be able to do that. It’s hard to say with such a crazy housing market, but that’s what patience and prudent saving are for. For now though we are making sure we enjoy the life we have, and all the wonderful things we’ve been blessed with. Today we celebrated what an awesome woman I am married to, and our son is a constant reminder of how lucky I am to be raising him with her.

Here’s to another thousand posts…

New Author Website is Up

My new author website is officially UP!

There’s nothing too exciting there yet, but I knew I needed a website separate from this one. The Blarg is my personal site with lots of opinions that the average person doesn’t want to hear about, so this gives me an opportunity to have discussions solely about my book and writing in general. Hopefully I’ll have a lot to post there and keep updated, so make sure you visit and add the RSS feeds to your reader!

Author Site

…is now going to be the most famous! Paloma is going to be on SURVIVOR! I was reading about one of the other players, and then I saw her picture I was like no way! So not only is this season in HD, but it also has someone I know. I used to give her rides to school in High School, and she used to live on my street. This is crazy! GO PALOMA!

New season premieres on Thursday, September 25th. It’s on at 8 pm on CBS. Do I feel a survive night get together?

Here is the link to her forum page. Register and say something nice!

Got a “new” band I heard on Conan a while back. Give them a list over on Blarg Radio to the right! I would classify it as “Bubblegum Pop Punk.” That’s not an official category by any means, but simply a made up Blarg category. I can do that because it’s my website.

Four Years Old

The Blarg is now four years old!

I haven’t been posting because we’ve been too busy watching the Olympics. We record all three airings on NBC each day. We end up watching most of those, but we skip through some stuff like whole basketball games. I think it’s fun to watch all the heats because you get to know the runners/swimmers, and then when you watch the final you know who to root for and who the good competition is. So far I’ve enjoyed watching Phelps of course, but I also enjoyed the men’s 100m dash. Bolt is just a beast! We also watched all of the gymnastics, swimming, synchro diving, and the recent track and field coverage. We’re watching some of the volleyball, but we’ll get into it more nearing the finals. I would have to say the most boring events so far are the rowing.

Kurtis and Amanda got married and had a beautiful wedding day. It was great being a part of it. This was the second wedding I was able to videotape, and I have to say I really enjoy it. If there was ever a regular “job” I’d want on the side, starting a little videographer business might be fun.

In addition to watching the Olympics we’ve been doing a whole lot of nothing. I actually have a huge list of things to do before we go back to work. I’m getting my own room this year, and right now everything is just thrown on the tables with zero organization, so I have to go back a few days the week before to get things in order.

We have permanently moved Luke into his own bedroom now. He’s sleeping in his crib always and out of the bassinet, and his changer is now in his own room. He’s been sleeping really well the last couple weeks. He usually sleeps 8-10 hours total, but he usually needs a refill in the middle. Overall it will be much nicer than when he was firstborn. Waking up once during the night for 10 minutes is pretty easy. He’s done 7 and 8 hours straight a couple times, so I’m hopeful we can get him on our school schedule in the near future.

I met up with some friends from High School last weekend, so I have a picture of that to post, and of course I should put up more baby, but I’ll do that later. It’s after noon now, so I should probably take a shower. :)

DVDs For Sale!

If you hadn’t heard already, I am a huge fan of High-Definition video, and everyday my 480p resolution DVDs stare and taunt me with their low resolution!!!!

It’s not actually that bad, but I’m having a firesale. All the DVDs must go! I have this cabinet full of DVDs from when I used to actually buy them, but we never watch any of them. There are some movies that I actually want to own like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and The Matrix, but by and large I don’t need movies like Weekend at Bernie, Outbreak, and Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

I’ve put all 100 or so on Half.com, and already I’ve sold 12! Granted I priced them very competitively because I don’t want to still be selling these things 6 months from now. On average I should be able to get between $1-$3 for each of them, and then with that money I can buy some of the truly good movies in Blu-Ray!

In case you want to buy some of my DVDs, go visit The Blarg’s Store!
