Luke is Back

Not much going on. Only two more weeks until Christmas break!

Sadly, at the age of 27, I received my first filling on Friday. For years I have been proud of my cavity free mouth, but last week one of my wisdom teeth was the victim of evil tooth decay. The cool part is that a guy I played volleyball with in High School did the filling. Crazy! Anyone else beat 27 years without a cavity? My sister said that third molars (wisdom teeth) don’t even count though, which I’m fine with.

I’m already tired of Little Big Planet. Once you beat the game, it’s just a lot jumping…and no matter how cool the level…it’s still just a lot of jumping. I put it on Ebay, and I bought Wipeout HD for only $20!

Stacie just told me to turn off the computer and go to bed, and I said “The Department of Defense is under attack by a foregin terrorist and I have to stop it.” She said that’s not my job.

She also pointed out that I promised baby pictures in this post. In a week he’ll be nine months old.

Luke Mickey’s His Daddy

We do patty cake now, and as Uncle Paul points out, that’s all. We don’t roll anything or mark it with a B yet.

We also hold our own bottle if mom or dad won’t do it for him. If you let go and let it just sit there, then he’ll grab it. But if you hold it at all, he’s more than happy to let you do all the work.

We let cute little Romanian girls grab our ears and then we make weird faces.

On Thanksgiving we were thankful to be able to spend it with our Great-Grandpa. This is my favorite picture of the two of them.

Yay For Holidays!

I’ve only missed a Thanksgiving post by a full week. :)

The baby is doing great. He had an ear infection that had spread to both ears, but two weeks ago he got a super antibiotic shot, and he’s all better now. Got our 8 month shots finally, and he weighed in at 23 pounds on the nose (at 8.5 months now).

On Thanksgiving Day he started to crawl, and it’s on video! He wanted Great Grandpa’s cane, and he pulled himself a good 4-5 feet across the floor to get it. Right now he mainly uses his right arm and his legs, and just leaves his left arm tucked under him. His favorite destinations on the floor are the Wii Fit and the cables on the front of the PS3. When Stacie asked me what I was going to do about that, I said I was going to place decoy cables around the room. Then he will crawl to the decoy cables and not mess up anything. I’m sure it will work.

I haven’t mentioned anything about my novel in months. I sent off two copies of it to be edited, and I now have them both back in my possession! My next step is to read through my editors’ notes, take some notes about any major changes I want to make, and then I need to go back through the entire thing one more time. My goal is to have it done by March/April because that will be two years since I started it. Originally I had hoped for Christmas time, but that’s not going to happen. Thanks again to Kevin and Joanne for all their hard work.

There’s a quick update on things. Baby pictures in the next one, I promise.

Post-Election Thoughts

Obama is the President-Elect! Overall I can’t say I’m too surprised. I was holding out hope that the polls weren’t accurate, but overall they pretty much were. I think McCain just had too much to overcome. The combination of Bush being extremely unpopular and the financial crisis sending the entire country into the doldrums didn’t help. I think this was much more about people being unhappy with government than it was about a mandate for Obama’s politics.

There are two things I want to bring up about Obama’s impending Presidency. First, while I think it’s great we have our first black President, I’m over it already. Is this going to be the new benchmark to establish when a minority group is no longer opressed? Poor hispanics and asians are going to have to wait for a President that can affirm their ability to do whatever they want. That being said, I don’t think the cries of discrimination are going to stop anytime soon. The black community faces many unique challenges like high crime rates and out of wedlock births, and an Obama presidency will do little to change those problems. How long will it take before the black community turns on Obama for not fixing their problems?

Speaking of Obama and fixing problems…it will be interesting to see how he governs. He set the bar awfully high when he promised to change the world. He does realize he’s only in charge of one country right? With so much power in congress I fully expect the Democrats to embrace a leftist agenda. Don’t expect them to tackle the problems with social security or earmarks, but instead look for topics like healthcare and social spending. Clinton’s eight years were relatively mild because he was kept in check by a Republican congress. The last time the Democrats were in this position was when Carter was in office.

I’ve seen talk already of the Republican party realizing they need to get back to the basics of limited government. They screwed the pooch royally over the last eight years of Bush and the six years of their majority in congress. If Obama does govern to the left, and prolongs the economic troubles we face, Republicans will be in a good position to come back to the people and preach about limited government.

One thing I pledge to do over the next four years is to respect the office of the Presidency. I’m sure I will have many disagreements with Obama’s vision for our country, so don’t be surprised to find me critical of his politics. However, I promise to keep it on an even keel, which hopefully isn’t a surprise to most that read this blog.

Look for another post soon with baby pictures and Little Big Planet!

It’s been almost a month since I last posted baby pictures, so he’s overdue! Since then he’s turned 6 months old and started going to daycare. He’s getting bigger and smarter all the time.

Sorry for the Delay

I know it’s been a long time since baby pictures, and these are just a few to tide people over. I need to get the motivation to take stuff off the main camera, but it’s downstairs right now. :)

Gratuitous Baby Post!

I’m burned out on the politics right now, so as requested by his Aunt, here are baby pictures. It’s late and I need to sleep, so you only get three. But they’re darn cute!

I’ve run out of exciting titles for posts of baby pictures. One of these times I’m actually going to post something like a thought, or what I’m up to, but for now it will have to be just another post of the cutest boy on Earth. :)

I know it’s been a while since this aunt got her picture on the blarg.

And in this one he is just downright cute. Since he’s smiling a little in this picture, I’ll say something about that. It’s pretty fun now because he’ll look at me or Stacie and smile when he sees us. It’s super cute and something he didn’t do even a couple weeks ago.

Some Long Overdue Luke

Comments off

I know, it’s been a long time since baby pictures. We haven’t taken very many in the last week because the little dude had a terrible face rash…and we’ve been tired. But it’s Saturday now, so I’ve got a few minutes, and a few pictures!

Our friends Lydia and Joe came over and brought their beautiful little girl Nicole. I don’t know if she uses one L or two, so she’ll have to correct me if I’m wrong with just one. I love this picture because Luke has the crazy eyes!

On Sunday we went to Brian’s baptism and then to Fanny and Mark’s for lunch. As you can see, Luke still had a bit of his rash going on. His poor face looks all swollen. It also seemed to affect his ability to pose for a picture.

Luke is funny lately sleeping in his bassinet. He likes to turn himself to his right until he’s wedged in like this. Silly boy!

We’re heading over to my mom’s house today for mother’s day lunch, and then we’re doing lunch again tomorrow with Stacie’s mom. It’s a jam packed mother’s day weekened!
