The Final Countdown!

My poor arcade monitor is in the shop. I had it running off a “smart” powerstrip. One outlet controlled all the others, and when the computer started to draw juice on that special outlet, the strip sent power to all the others. That makes turning the whole arcade on and off really simple. But lately the strip was a little weird, and the other day I got home from work and it was turning everything on and off repeatedly. Apparently 8 hours of on and off broke the monitor. Instead of turning on it just clicks like a car turn signal. Luckily the place I bought it from is in Buena Park, and they’re an authorized service center. Now hopefully it’s done before the baby is done so I can get that out of the way.

We’re still waiting on baby furniture. The crib and nightstand are in, but they’re waiting for the dresser, which we want to put stuff in. It should be here any day though. The only other thing we really need is a glider/rocking chair of some sort.

We’re officially 1 week away. The Doc wants the baby to come sooner than later, so she has an appointment on Tuesday. Using her magical doctor powers she’s going to try and make the baby come by Wednesday. Oh my!!! I apologize to my unborn son that the arcade monitor got top billing in this post. But trust me son, some day you will be glad your father and uncle built that thing!

Baby Stuff

Tonight we learned all about breast feeding! It was actually pretty interesting. So far I haven’t been too into the whole reading and learning aspect of being pregnant, I think mainly because there is a ton of info out there that I don’t need to know. But how breast feeding works and the benefits seem very real and useful to me, so I was interested. Tomorrow we start the birthing type classes, so we’ll see how that goes.

Over the weekend our big goal was to ascertain baby furniture, and we succeeded! Unfortunately it won’t be here for 10-12 weeks, haha. The baby will be in a basinet for a couple months though, so everything should work out. We also met and interviewed a daycare lady on Friday, and it looks like the baby will be set in the Fall!

Something I’ve been researching for months is a high-def camcorder, and I’m pretty much set on which one I want. I’d been watching the Canon HV20 for a while, but they just announced a new version (HV30) which has a few notable improvements. For the techno geeks, it has a newer LCD, and it also has a 30p mode. I hate working with interlaced footage, and being able to film 30p out of the box should be a nice improvement over the 24p of the HV20 (not to mention the HV30 has 24p also). My only concern is that it won’t be out until February (or Amazon is saying March 1st) and that is cutting it a little close. Hopefully I can get one right away and start learning the ropes in time for the baby. :)

I’m on call for jury duty this week because I was a dufus and didn’t call during vacation. Luckily though I didn’t have to go today and I don’t have to go tomorrow. Who knows, maybe I’ll luck out and not have to go all week!

Hope everyone is well. Visit Paul’s site and Luna’s site for some cool videos.

Baseball, Debris, and Baby

This morning I played a game of online baseball on the PS3 and it lasted for 18 innings. I was losing to the Angels 3-0 in the 8th inning, but my Dodgers put up 3 runs to tie it. From there it stayed tied until the 18th inning. Brad Penny came in for relief and pitched almost an entire game. In the bottom of the 18th Jeff Kent came up and knocked one over the wall to win the game. Very satisfying feeling! You can check the box score here.

On the way home we were driving on the freeway, and traffic was moving really well. Then the guy in front of me started to brake and put on his turn signal. Then at the last minute he swerved to avoid some debris in our lane, leaving me ZERO time to get out of the way. If you see something in the road a long ways out, don’t swerve at the last minute. He could have stopped completely! But no, I got to hit some remnants of a bumper or something and get nice big scratches on the front of the new car. Ugh. Now I’ve got to take it in to the body shop for something small and pay my $250 deductible. Turd.

In better news, the baby’s room is moving along. Everything is painted and I put up new blinds. Our stroller is on the way from Target that we bought with gift cards from Grandpa. We still need to pick out baby furniture, but Stacie has seen some that she likes. She went yesterday with a friend and registered for a bunch of stuff at Babies R Us. You can visit our baby’s registry here!
