How To Waste Your Time

In case you’re on summer vacation also and spend your time watching stupid shows that are only on during the summer until the real shows return, then this is for you.

Both FOX and NBC came out with the exact same game show concept the exact same week. It’s a show about trying to remember the words to a song. In case you’re wondering, the FOX show is 100x better than the NBC.

In recap, if you’re going to waste your time watching stupid summer shows, only waste it watching the FOX show (Don’t Forget the Lyrics).

I feel like posting, but I’ve used up my allotment of words for the day. I think that was around third period actually. Regardless, I will think of something.

Peaches. Millions of peaches. Peaches for me.
No, scratch that.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is in “trouble” for firing 8 or something district attorneys, and Democrats are having a field day. It wasn’t a big deal when Janet Reno fired ALL 93 when Clinton took office. They serve at the pleasure of the President. There’s nothing illegal about getting rid of them. See, elections do matter!

No, scratch that. Nobody comments on my political posts, as evidenced by “Blarg Stats.” According to that, teaching and television garner the greatest amount of responses. Let’s give that a go.

Have you seen that new TV show about TEACHING. Oh man, the comments are going to roll in now! I’ll try them separate now.

Teaching is going well. State testing is coming up. I might have time to chew through some more of the Dark Tower series. I’m stuck on book 5. Oops, that’s about books, not teaching. I cut up a soda can today to explain that the lateral side of a cylinder is a rectangle. It was cool!

Oh look, this paragraph is about television. Heroes resumed last night. WOW. Oh, and last week’s survivor was downright awesome. It was possibly the greatest episode ever. Trent knows what I’m talking about.

I cleaned the laptop yesterday because it was really gross looking. The I key on the laptop is completely without the letter I. The letters O, L, N, S, and E are also rubbing off. Good thing I know how to touch type. I guess I should stop going around typing “E LIONS” all the time. That’s all I could spell using those letters.

The only movie I’m super excited about right now is TRANSFORMERS. Holy cow that looks sweet.

Super cool band called All Time Low.

THE END

There’s one bad word right at the beginning, so cover your ears. :)

Lost is Lame

I know Angelo will probably defend the show, but I won’t let that stop me from voicing my honest frustration. Lost is lame.

I’m not sure when it happened. It might have started at the end of last season, but by the middle of this season it was in full force. Before I knew it the show got extremely retarded. The acting is fine, the scenery is great, but the story is just absolutely pathetic.

In this week’s episode there was conversation where Ben was detailing his highly intellectual game of staying in “power” with his people. I almost started laughing, because at this point in the show even the “others” are a complete joke. They live on the island with their houses….and….oh wait, that’s all. There’s no grand conspiracy or overarching plot lines, just a stupid village with a pinball machine in their rec room.

The original draw of the show, for me at least, was the mystery of the island. The writers have either cleared up all the mysteries or forgotten to write about them. Here’s a list of annoying things:

  1. Desmond can tell the future, or something, but the writers forget to give it a purpose.
  2. The Others live on the island for no apparent reason, and with no specific purpose.
  3. The Others know everything about everyone…again, for no reason.
  4. Why did the Others capture everyone at the end of last season? Jack I understand for the surgery bit, but Kate and Sawyer? So they could move rocks? Oh wait, because then they could break out later and advance the plotline.
  5. The Dharma Initiative and the hatches were huge parts of the story for over a whole season. Apparently they’re meaningless and Dharma hasn’t been around in a long time. Oh, but we can still send them pallets of food from the organization that doesn’t matter anymore.
  6. Claire hates Charlie one episode, the next episode they’re falling in love, and the next episode she hates him again. Continuity need not apply.

I could probably go on, but there’s no point (and I haven’t even mentioned the “box” idiocy). The only positive thing I can say is that the Locke background story was excellent. The backstories in previous episodes have been a complete waste of time, but at least this one revealed some new information.

Alright Lost lovers, let me have it.

Shows Are Back!

Last night Prison Break and Heroes were fresh and exciting! Oh how I’ve missed that tag-team.

Prison Break is still very interesting despite being out of the slammer (though some people have found themselves going in). The larger conspiracy the show now revolves around is still good for some heart pounding moments, but it has become much more about the characters and personal vendettas than about the conspiracy. The conspiracy storyline took a well overdue advance yesterday, and I look forward to seeing how that unfolds.

Heroes continues to amaze me. I read an article in the paper about how the writers want something "big" to happen every episode, and boy have they come through. Each episode something major is revealed, whether it’s a new character, a new power, or a new breakthrough in the overarching story. It’s hard to not compare this to Lost, so I will. Lost seems like it has been spinning it’s wheels all season. If I recall there were some episodes where the only thing they showed was Kate and Sawyer sitting in their little cells. Heroes has been able to give the viewer a little something every episode to make you feel like things are progressing. When it feels like things are going nowhere (Lost) it tends to get really boring.

Are there any favorite shows that people are watching?

alex angarita survivor 14 fijiA guy by the name of Alex Angarita is on season 14 of Survivor that starts Februrary 8th. He graduated class of ’95 from Warren with Stacie. He also has a younger brother named Roger that graduated ’98 with some of you.

The show is trumpeting a very "diverse" cast again, but it doesn’t sound like they’ll be splitting them by race. Instead of calling it diverse, why don’t they just say it has more minorities on it, or inversely, they kept down the number of white people? Can’t put a lot of white people on the show, because that would be boring! The fact that the producers even consider the people’s skin color is pretty pathetic.

I know most of you don’t watch Survivor, but it’s kind of fun knowing a Warren graduate is on the show. It will be interesting to see how he does.

Heroes

In case you’ve been living in a cave the whole Summer, you should know that Heroes starts tonight at 9 pm on NBC. This is the only new show that I’ve been excited about. It looks like X-men meets normal people. It’s got the guy from Felicity, the guy from Gilmore Girls, and the girl from Final Destination. I love sci-fi stuff, and you can bet when the odd sci-fi show makes it to primetime I will give it a chance. Though I didn’t give Surface or Invasion a chance last year, which is probably why they were cut. But as I look at the Nielsen Media Research website, apparently they don’t let people volunteer. I guess posting here on this blarg will be the best way I can help out a new show. Hopefully they can’t tell I’m skipping past all their ad-revune, err, commercials.

As I was saying, my fingers are crossed that the show will be decent. I’m expecting some special effects beyond what they’ve shown in the commercials. If Smallville can show Clark flying, one of the big networks better be able to show the guy from Gilmore Girls flying, not just a camera hooked to a helicopter flying around. Don’t miss it, tonight at 9 on the peacock!

Update: Originally this thread was titled "Hereos," which sounds like Oreos. My bad.

The Office is a Win-Win-Win!

The Office won best comedy! The show is hilarious, and if you’ve never seen it, you don’t know what you’re missing. I love it so much I’ve been watching the reruns all summer long. Steve Carell didn’t win best actor in a comedy series, but he should have.

Mark September 21st on your calendar, because The Office and My Name is Earl will be back!
