Hellogoodbye!

I’ve posted a new song over in the little media player there in the number one position. It’s called "Touchdown Turnaround" by Hellogoodbye. They’re a really interesting synth/pop/rock band. I feel really geeky/guilty listening to them, like someone is about to open the door and find out what I’m listening to and publicly humiliate me. :) The rest of the album is a little mellow, but very unique. If you’d like to hear some of their other songs check them out at purevolume. You can even download that song.

I would say that I was bored this afternoon, but that’s not really true. I actually had a lot of things I should have been doing, but instead I was playing around with adding music to the blarg. Now I know what you’re thinking…"oh stupid music that starts playing when I go to your website and I have to search fo the dumb thing so I can turn it off!" That might be how it works on whorespace, err, myspace, but I think you’ll like this system.

Over on the right is a small button which will expand when you move the mouse over it. Internet Explorer users need to click on it first and then it will start working. What this button will let me do is post music for people to listen to. If you want to listen, you can. If you don’t want to listen, you don’t have to. If you don’t, it should sit over there and stay out of your way.

Currently you’ll find three songs by three bands you’ve probably never heard of. Two of them I scoured the entire internet (that’s right, the whole thing) to find. The third one, by Rehasher, is a side band of the lead singer from Less Than Jake, at least one of them anyways. In the future, if I come across new songs I find interesting, I will now have the ability to post them for your listening pleasure.

…so here it is. I’m busying scanning pictures, and I’ll have to post a couple here pretty soon. While I do that I’m also searching for old compact discs that are impossible to find. Either I owned the CD at one point and was dumb/poor enough to sell it, or I’d only downloaded it and have since lost it. Here are a few, and if you have them, I will gladly accept a copy:

Sinai – Live in Room 104
Sinai – One More Night With the Frogs
Dogwood – Through Thick and Thin
Value Pac – Incognito
Brownie Points – Waiting For Something More
F.o.N. – Awkward Silence (song from mp3.com)

I may have to accept that I will never come to hear these treasured songs again. Even now in the age of technology and piracy they are still nearly impossible to come by. How sad it is.

I love how music has an amazing ability to transport you to a different time and place, bringing back memories and feelings from different stages in life. Since I’m not that old yet, the only real stages I have to be transported back to are High School and early college. Listening to songs that were on the radio while I was in High School brings back memories like my Ghia, dating, all the girls I tried to date, and working my first job at the library.

So how do you find all the songs that were on during High School? Every year KROQ does a top 106.7 songs, and luckily someone has compiled them all. It was interesting to look at the lists and see when I stopped listening to KROQ (somewhere round 2001 or so). They have lists starting all the way back in 1980 for my old readers. :)

Panic! At the Disco

Panic! At the DiscoYou might have noticed I have a link down and to the right that will take you to a list of songs I’ve listened to.

A new band I’ve been listening to is called Panic! At the Disco. They’re a rock/emo band with a really unique sound. Some of it almost sounds like dance music. It makes me wanna get up and shake my tail feather!

Not only do I enjoy finding new bands that I like, but this band inparticular also reassures me that I’m not yet an old fogey. Some of my students have them plastered on their folder, and they’re very surprised to hear that not only do I know who they are, but I’ve actually listened to them. Go visit the above link and give them a listen!
