At least you didn't update while you were peeing!

I do remember your IM status updates!

I've thought about this same thing from time to time, because I'm often guilty of over updating. Before I started with twitter, I didn't get it. When I found a purpose for it (updating the labor status) it was kind of fun to update, but I'll admit it sucked on my old phone.

I now use twitter as my hub for updates. Once it's up to twitter, my IM and Facebook status will be synced/updated (not on myspace because it still isn't smart enough) For updates, I try to keep it to things/daily nothings that were interesting/relevant to me and if to only me, oh well. I sometimes look back at my old twitter posts, it's kind of like a journal of nothings.

With the iPhone, Crackberry and twitter bar updating twitter status or checking facebook is a breeze and really doesn't take much time to update, maybe a minute.

I enjoy reading and commenting people's updates (or new photos) on facebook and it seems that a large chunk of people I encounter or interact with on a regular basis are on facebook and update their status pretty regularly.

This has allowed me insights into what people do or think and on a few occasions it's come in handy and allowed us to meet up in public. Then when I see these people in public I feel like I'm caught up with what's been going on with them so conversations are easier / more relevant and less of the "so what's new with you" type of conversation.

I totally understand your frustrations though, there are things I don't need to know and I'd hope people would keep it to themselves. On the other hand it's cool too see how open some people are!
