Got a “new” band I heard on Conan a while back. Give them a list over on Blarg Radio to the right! I would classify it as “Bubblegum Pop Punk.” That’s not an official category by any means, but simply a made up Blarg category. I can do that because it’s my website.
No, I don’t mean “work” school, but “college” school. I’m taking my first (and last) class at Cerritos. It’s an online only class about spreadsheets that lasts 9 weeks. After finishing all my required teacher traininig I’m still two units shy of maxing out on the payscale. In case you don’t know how it works, teachers typically get paid more for two reasons: college units and years of service. These two units will result in a $3k pay increase every year until I die. Woot! I know, it sounds like a really hard class, but I’m going to do my best. The extra cash will help cover sending the little booger to daycare.
The other day NBC interviewed Kobe Bryant and asked him some questions about how he felt to be on the Olympic basketball team. I have to give Kobe props for some of his answers. The man is proud of his country and has no qualms stating that he thinks it’s the best in the world. Good for you Kobe.
You can watch a small clip of the video here. If anyone finds a link to the whole video let me know please.
The Blarg is now four years old!
I haven’t been posting because we’ve been too busy watching the Olympics. We record all three airings on NBC each day. We end up watching most of those, but we skip through some stuff like whole basketball games. I think it’s fun to watch all the heats because you get to know the runners/swimmers, and then when you watch the final you know who to root for and who the good competition is. So far I’ve enjoyed watching Phelps of course, but I also enjoyed the men’s 100m dash. Bolt is just a beast! We also watched all of the gymnastics, swimming, synchro diving, and the recent track and field coverage. We’re watching some of the volleyball, but we’ll get into it more nearing the finals. I would have to say the most boring events so far are the rowing.
Kurtis and Amanda got married and had a beautiful wedding day. It was great being a part of it. This was the second wedding I was able to videotape, and I have to say I really enjoy it. If there was ever a regular “job” I’d want on the side, starting a little videographer business might be fun.
In addition to watching the Olympics we’ve been doing a whole lot of nothing. I actually have a huge list of things to do before we go back to work. I’m getting my own room this year, and right now everything is just thrown on the tables with zero organization, so I have to go back a few days the week before to get things in order.
We have permanently moved Luke into his own bedroom now. He’s sleeping in his crib always and out of the bassinet, and his changer is now in his own room. He’s been sleeping really well the last couple weeks. He usually sleeps 8-10 hours total, but he usually needs a refill in the middle. Overall it will be much nicer than when he was firstborn. Waking up once during the night for 10 minutes is pretty easy. He’s done 7 and 8 hours straight a couple times, so I’m hopeful we can get him on our school schedule in the near future.
I met up with some friends from High School last weekend, so I have a picture of that to post, and of course I should put up more baby, but I’ll do that later. It’s after noon now, so I should probably take a shower.
The Olympics start today and I’m excited. We’ve watched all the olympic trials that were on TV so that we’d be familiar with the athletes. I could have sworn I heard NBC say something about broadcasting the Olympics live, but I can’t find anything about that online. The opening ceremonies are already super delayed, so I assume most of it will be. I will be going on a media blackout so nothing gets ruined, much like I did four years ago when I started my blog.
We’ve cleared off the DVR completely in anticipation of having LOTS of stuff to record. Some days are there are 12 hours of events just on NBC. I’m sure we won’t watch everything, but there should be plenty to skip through.
I know it’s been a long time since you saw cute baby, so this should make you happy.
We went swimming for the first time the other week. Basically that means we sat on the step of the pool and held him while he looked super confused. But he is super cute in his little swim trunks.
We went to see Great Grandpa the other day. His eyes light up when he sees Luke.
We’ve been meaning to take more pictures of the three of us. Usually it’s one of us behind the camera, and only one of us in the picture. Luckily Andrew was over and took this nice one of us.
And speaking of Uncle Andrew…
My parents got back from England and brought Luke a London shirt! He likes it a lot.
Here’s Luke and Nicole hanging out in the bassinet together. He thinks it’s funny.
I promise to bury this post with pictures of the baby right away, but I couldn’t pass this one up. Obama refuses to do townhall style debates with McCain. The best part of this whole exchange, which Medved pointed out on Friday, is that the heckler makes wild accusations, but Obama doesn’t even correct him. Instead he basically goes along with the question and talks about himself. My favorite is what Obama says about Sean Bell. He put out a statement saying “it was a problem.” Haha. If you’re impatient, skip ahead to around 2:30.
And people think Bush is a bad speaker? The guy can’t put together a coherent sentence without a teleprompter.
