Dodgers in HD!

Comments off

The Dodgers are in HD! The game doesn’t count, but it’s glorious! The picture is beautiful. It’s like being at the game in the really good seats. I might never leave the couch.

I just bought some stuff for hotdogs. Gonna watch the game!

Cute is What We Aim For

I’ve been slacking on my posting of new bands I’m listening to. One of the newest is a band called Cute is What We Aim For. They’re a little more mellow than some of loud stuff I like, so take a gander on the right at Blarg Radio for a listen. If you like it there are a couple more tracks at their purevolume page.

I know next to nothing about this game, but the user comments were making me laugh. I especially enjoyed the second comment. Keep in mind I don’t think there are ANY pictures of the actual game yet, but that person is apparently quite trusting.

Our Clematis

I wouldn’t put myself in the “green thumb” category by any means, but I do take pride in this little accomplishment here. Not only is it one of only two surviving plants in our backyard, but it’s also quite the metaphor.

clematis

The clematis blooms during the spring and fall, and this last winter it was dreadful looking. There were zero flowers, and absolutely no green. Just looking at the plant you’d think it was dead, that’s how pathetic it looked. But about a month ago it started to show signs of life. Out of the sickly looking brown vines popped green little leaves.

What exactly it’s a metaphor for, I’m not sure yet. But to see something appear completely dead and have it come “back to life” is a very satisfying experience. Remember, don’t judge things based on their appearances alone, because what’s happening underneath might need a little time to surface.

Lost is Lame

I know Angelo will probably defend the show, but I won’t let that stop me from voicing my honest frustration. Lost is lame.

I’m not sure when it happened. It might have started at the end of last season, but by the middle of this season it was in full force. Before I knew it the show got extremely retarded. The acting is fine, the scenery is great, but the story is just absolutely pathetic.

In this week’s episode there was conversation where Ben was detailing his highly intellectual game of staying in “power” with his people. I almost started laughing, because at this point in the show even the “others” are a complete joke. They live on the island with their houses….and….oh wait, that’s all. There’s no grand conspiracy or overarching plot lines, just a stupid village with a pinball machine in their rec room.

The original draw of the show, for me at least, was the mystery of the island. The writers have either cleared up all the mysteries or forgotten to write about them. Here’s a list of annoying things:

  1. Desmond can tell the future, or something, but the writers forget to give it a purpose.
  2. The Others live on the island for no apparent reason, and with no specific purpose.
  3. The Others know everything about everyone…again, for no reason.
  4. Why did the Others capture everyone at the end of last season? Jack I understand for the surgery bit, but Kate and Sawyer? So they could move rocks? Oh wait, because then they could break out later and advance the plotline.
  5. The Dharma Initiative and the hatches were huge parts of the story for over a whole season. Apparently they’re meaningless and Dharma hasn’t been around in a long time. Oh, but we can still send them pallets of food from the organization that doesn’t matter anymore.
  6. Claire hates Charlie one episode, the next episode they’re falling in love, and the next episode she hates him again. Continuity need not apply.

I could probably go on, but there’s no point (and I haven’t even mentioned the “box” idiocy). The only positive thing I can say is that the Locke background story was excellent. The backstories in previous episodes have been a complete waste of time, but at least this one revealed some new information.

Alright Lost lovers, let me have it.

Probably not my cup of tea, but I think Mom and sis’ would enjoy this one. It’s an Agatha Christie book in videogame form. Interesting.

That’s all you get today. Bleh.

I just ran three errands in less than a half an hour!

I’m not a morning person at all, but today I woke up at 8 am on a Saturday to run errands. If you’re wondering why, it’s because the Dodgers first televised game is on at 10 am, and I wanted to have them done before it started. I ran to the bank, the library, and a friend’s house in record time

The bank was amazing. Not only did I get to park in the front row, but as soon as I walked in a teller was anxiously awaiting to serve me. Since the bank had opened only a few minutes earlier, she was in a wonderful mood still. It was also very “amazon woman” feeling. All ten or so of the employees I saw working were women. Weird.

The library wasn’t open yet, which is good, because then your books get checked in the day before. Boo yah! Again, front row parking!

The best thing has to be the streets. They are empty! Even at 9:30 am on a Saturday most people are still sleeping away, leaving me to roam the streets at will. It was glorious.

I’m now second guessing my decision to share this privileged information with all of you, but I’ll bet you would rather sleep than run errands. Mwuahaha!

I used to make a lot of early morning Blarg posts, but not so much anymore. That was probably when I’d wake up right at 6 am and have lots of time in my morning. Lately though it’s wake up and *WHAM*BAM* get ready for work and leave. Today I have about 5 mins before I need to leave, which I’ve already used up. Now I just started sneezing, and that has eaten into my precious posting time, and now I’ve wasted more time mentioning that.

I’ve probably spent 5 hours this week working on a new novel idea. The last one I had is on the shelf, and deservedly so. The way ideas keep flowing on this one tell me I’m going in the right direction. Sadly it’s not very exciting as far as Blarg posts go, because you don’t get to read much. It’s just me saying “I’m writing something, but you can’t read it.” I also feel like it would be lame to put the entire plot here, and then in the rare chance I actually have a completed novel in 6 months to have the whole thing been ruined already. Therefore I will only be able to tease you with bits and pieces of what I’m researching. I spent a couple hours yesterday reading about physics, of which I know nothing. And even after all my reading, I still know nothing. It’s somewhat in the Science Fiction genre, but it is most definitly a goal of mine to make it accessible to everyone. I think that’s a charm of the Ice and Fire series. They’re fantasy, but whenever a “normal” person reads them, regardless of their love for fantasy, they can’t help but get swept up in the story. That’s my goal here.

And of course for it to be turned into a mutli-part epic that sells millions of copies and New Line inks it to a three picture deal.
