what’s your final assessment of Angels & Demons?

i think i own 2 hardcover novels, and a handful of textbooks that actually have dustjackets. how much do you charge?

If Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code provide the mental fodder in your conservative ideological crusade, I’m going to go out on a limb and declare that the Left has little to fear.

Thank you Kevin for always being there to defend me from the anonymous crazy people.

How could those books provide “fodder” for my ideological “crusade”? I’m only 40 pages into Da Vinci Code…but I don’t get the feeling there is stuff in it about personal responsibility, limited government, and getting rid of the welfare state so illegals have no incentive to come here.

Please “real blarg,” correct me if I’m wrong.

I’ve never had the privilege of meeting Kevin’s mother. Although she’s surely a fine woman, I’ll “tell you” that she’s probably not as great as you think–I bet her poop still stinks. She might have even cheated on your father. You never know.

Considering the imminence of this ideological battle, a battle that “the enemey cannot win,” I’m flabbergasted that time could be allocated to something as vapid as The Da Vinci Code. Granted, I guess it’s not much of a battle–for, at your darkest moment, God shall sally forth with lightning bolts and chariots of righteousness to annihilate the wayward flocks of leftistas.

Unacceptable. Even if you WERE trying to make a point (which I doubt is the case, fake blarg), how can anyone take you seriously? I mean, I guess you sound semi-intelligent, so you had to know that the odds are really against you. I mean, first of all, are you preaching? Are you preaching about what a waste of time it is to read The DaVinci Coce? As if we should be doing something more righteous with our time or something, considering the spiritual battle we are in the midst of? And…you’re preaching it on the comments page of somebody else’s blog? I mean, maybe you did want to encourage the blarg, out of Christian love, to consider more carefully the imminent ideological battle before spending time on other things that you feel might be a waste. Ok, I can see that. But don’t you think that maybe it would have been better to write something nice…something like “hey, blarg, maybe you could answer some of my questions about what you’re reading. please e-mail me here when you have a minute. realblarg@blargx2.com” I think that would have been a lot nicer than what you said. But you didn’t do that. You said something kind of mean and sarcastic, putting the blarg and all the blarg’s friends on the defensive. that seems like it was kind of a silly thing to do if you wanted anyone to listen to you. Did you really think you would have an audience here? Using the tone you used? I just think it’s unfair for you to use condescend here. Don’t do that. Don’t come in here telling other people how to use their time more wiseley for the sake of righteousness. I mean, is that what you do? Do you spend your day searching for other people’s blogs so that you can post stuff like this? Maybe people who read Dan Brown’s books aren’t the only people who need to re-think the use of their time. And maybe you should actually read the books before you decide whether or not they’re a waste of time. Or maybe you just picked the wrong word out of your thesaurus on accident. Whatever it was, The DaVinci code was definitely not vapid, or they most likely wouldn’t have made it into a movie because it wouldn’t have had such a big deal made about it. And why shouldn’t we read it…ESPECIALLY considering the imminence of the battle? How are we, as Christians, supposed to engage culture if we are isolating ourselves from what’s going on in the culture? We are called to be different from the world, not to isolate ourselves from it. We are supposed to be light in the darkness, and how will darkness turn to light if there is no light inside it to spread? We can’t just shut ourselves off from the world and hope that God will change hearts. We have to be in the world, willing that God will work through us to change hearts. And I don’t suggest that we become like the world in order to change the world. That won’t work. But how are we going to talk to people in the world if we can’t relate to them on any level? We SHOULD be reading the books that the world is reading, so long as they don’t cause us to sin. We SHOULD be seeing the movies that the world is seeing, with our hearts guarded. We should be listening to the world’s music and seeing the world’s plays, all with the heart of Jesus, in order to be in the world and not of the world.

So don’t come in here all high and mighty, as if you’re speaking the righteousness of God. And don’t use God as an excuse to push your agenda. And don’t suggest awful things about other people’s mamas. that’s just rude.
