I like ‘em. They’re a bit of a throwback.

They have better songs than those on their purevolume.

Angelo: Lateralus? Disappointed? really? You sure your not confusing it with the last APC album. I could see why that pissed you off cause he was a whiny hippie liberal on that one. But I didn’t think so on Lateralus….anyway the new one is more of a tribute to his late mother Judith Marie. It’s still growing on me…but they could put out a cd and sing about the phone book and I’d still be a fan. I think Tool is an aquired taste and it isn’t for everyone but I do think everyone should give them a listen cause they don’t sound like eveyone else out there.

If anything buy the new Tool for the packaging alone. Brilliantly done. They have set the new standard for liner notes.

I’m happy with my iPod. I never really researched any other players so iPod gets my vote. The Nanos are pretty sweet.

If I bought one today, it would be the biggest video ipod they make. It really depends on what you want it for. Nanos don’t have hard drives, so they’re great for stuff like exercise where it will be bouncing around. Regular ipods are great because they hold TONS of songs. If you’re only going to have a few songs, a regular ipod would be overkill.

A couple things I don’t like about nano is that it’s almost TOO small, where I don’t think it fits in your hand very well. The other is that most commercial products seem like they’re being made for the regular ipod…from home stereo hookups to car holders, accessories for the nano aren’t as pervasive (or at least that’s my perception).

I don’t actually own either one though, so it’s quite possible I don’t know what I’m talking about.

You don’t need a Mac.

iPods work with Windows. Originally it didn’t, but that was a long time ago. You can download iTunes for Windows and do all the same stuff.

Only problem I had with the video iPods is that the screen is still to small for my taste. We watched an episode of The Office on a co-workers iPod and I had a headache by the end of it. But if you like watching mini screens…go for it.

I’m on my second IPOD… they are too expensive but super easy to use and work well… the nanos *look* cool but they feel like they’d break / scratch easily… the shuffles are cool for working out as it’s essentially a large playlist you can play in order or shuffle, battery lasts long…

Itunes sucks (it’s a memory hog and overkill sometimes) but it’s easy to use and works well, and yes all Ipods work for windows / mac (even though they’ve always worked for both it was the software that apple refused to produce for windows which stopped most people during 1st gen of ipod).

Video Ipod is nice looking, it has a larger color screen, but I still don’t like the way you hold it to watch video and the screen is the wrong proportion, they should’ve turned it sideways (ALA PSP) and made for a more 16:9ish screen).

Creative also makes nice music players, my dad has one and they work well… though they are a little less user friendly (both on the player and on the computer) but generally have more features.

It depends on your budget and what you want to do with them. the Hard Drive based units are more expensive but hold more music and can double as a Hard Drive, the flash based units, generally have a smaller storage capacity with longer battery life (no moving parts) and are the lightest… so they are usually more suited outdoor activities.

I don’t know much about the sony units but i’ve seen more people are using them. Buy what you can afford, check reviews online, look for battery life / overall durability and satisfaction…

I’d probably buy an Ipod again if I had to (but they’re all video now so maybe not). The Ipod mini was probably the best one they produced as far as size, weight and capacity, but those are gone. Try ebay you may find a deal.

My best suggestion would be to upgrade your headphones after buying a unit, the stock ones usually don’t fit well or hurt after a while. Get a more comfortable (better sounding) pair of sony ear buds.
