Prop 77 – Redistricting. Initiative Constitutional Amendment.
My Summary: Right now legislatures (politicians) determine voting districts every 10 years after the census. This prop would put that power into the hands of 3 retired judges. These judges would be chosen through a series of checks and balances.
My Opinion: Currently politicians decide on the voting destricts and have a vested interest in how the lines are drawn. This prop would give that responsibility to a third party. I’ve seen TV ads showing three white and bearded "judges" that look really mean trying to convince me to vote no on this prop, but that is garbage. The checks and balances are extremely thorough and would be much more balanced than politicians are now. TV ads try to claim it’s too much work for three people, but it only happens once every 10 years.
Bottom Line: Redistricting needs to be an unpartisan as possible, and that’s not going to happen with politicians in charge of it. This puts three highly qualified individuals in charge, and most importantly they are a third party.
I am voting YES on Prop 77.
