My TV Shows In Review

The Fall TV season has been underway for about a month now, and I’d like to take this opportunity to review the shows I watch on a regular basis. Are they fresh and exciting, or are they fizzling out? Here’s a look in order from Monday – Sunday.

Prison Break (Mondays) – I swore I wouldn’t start watching a new show, but Prison Break peaked my interest before the show even started. Now after the first couple episodes, I’m totally hooked. A little “Escape from Alcatraz” mixed in with the suspense of “Lost,” and this show is a ton of fun. A guy gets put in prison on purpose to break out his brother who was put their by error. This is the only new show I’ve added to my week, and it’s totally worth it. Check it out!!

Gilmore Girls (Tuesdays) – Stacie and I have watched this show for the last couple years, but so far this year it’s super boring. None of the story lines are going anywhere, though the last episode gave us a little hope. Is this show finally on the way out?

Lost (Wednesdays) – Holy cow this show moves at a slow pace, and holy cow do I love it. They could be in season 10 and only 6 months could go by, but they would some how make it engrossing beyond belief. Where did Desmond go? What’s with the stupid computer? Are those people the others, or are there other others? This show rules.

Survivor (Thursdays) – I don’t know anyone else that actually likes this show besides the two of us, but it’s still great. The show is hard because it becomes exponentially more entertaining as a season goes along. At the beginning there are so many survivors that it’s hard to get to know them and have a favorite, but by the end it’s always a lot of fun to see what happens. My only complaint is that this is the only show we watch NOT broadcast in high defintion. BOO.

Smallville (Thursdays) – This show is in its 5th season, and WOW has it grown up. The first 3 episodes have been jam packed with action and great storylines. Starting last year they finally began to create storylines that spanned more than one episode, and it has paid off big time. Much like Lost and Prison Break (though with slightly less production quality), Smallville has stayed a must see next week sort of show.

ER (Thursdays) – Much like Gilmore Girls, ER has been very slow this year. I don’t care at all about Luca and Sam. Finally Luca is a good guy, but Sam is retarded. Give me some characters I care about. I want more Prat, bring back Galant, and more of the nerdy doctor with prostate cancer. John Leguizamo joins the cast for a few episodes, but they need to make some bigger additions than the crazy lady from 3rd Rock from the Sun.

That is a lot of TV right there, and most of it gets watched on the weekend. We’ve been recording One Tree Hill and Everwood because we don’t have time to watch them, but we can save them for a rainy day. I’ll tape CSI too just to have a good show around to watch if there is nothing else. Anyone else watch these shows?

New Love For Coffee?

For whatever reason I was bored yesterday, so we bought some coffee and creamer to use in our unused coffee maker. I think I’ve got a new love.

First off, I’m not a morning person at all. It’s super hard to wake up, and when I do I don’t have much energy. Lately I’ve been drinking energy drinks like the Sobe No Fear or Rockstar, but that gets expensive quick. So, I’ve turned to coffee to provide that morning bolt of caffeine. Quick little research seems like I’ve found an even higher caffeine source than mountain dew. For a while I used mountain dew to start my day (heck, it got me through my bachelors), but too much soda gives me indigestion.

So like I was saying, we bought some French Vanilla grounds at Target, and some Vanilla Carmel creamer at Stater Bros., and surprisingly, it’s reallllly good. I made the mistake of trying it last night before bed, only to find that I couldn’t fall asleep for 3 hours (seriously). So now I’m sticking to only drinking it in the mornings. :) Anyone else a coffee drinker besides Denise?

It’s Fall!!!!!!!

Every Fall something weird happens to me. I’m not talking about the day Fall officially starts, I’m talking about today. For me, it is now officially Fall.

Fall is first of all a season, and for me it’s between now and New Years. It’s more than just the holidays that happen inbetween. For the next 2.5 months it’s a reliving of the past. It is the time that I pop in certain CD’s from the last few years, and emotions and feelings all come rushing back. I can put in New Found Glory’s first cd, and all of a sudden it’s like I’m in 1999 all over again. It’s the weirdest deja vu feeling ever, but it only happens during the Fall.

The weather is finally cooling off, which means sweatshirts, which means heaters, which means staying indoors watching movies to candlelight. It’s Fall baby!

I read an excellent article by Dennis Prager today on a very cool website called townhall.com. In the article Prager discusses that one of the primary differences between conservatives and liberals is the governance of feelings. Prager goes through a laundry list and shows how liberals are primarily using feelings as their guide, while conservatives are using thought.

I believe this is why so many liberal ideas sound good at first glance, but over time prove disastrous for the very people they are supposed to help. Many decisions have far reaching consequences, and feelings rarely take into account all possible outcomes.

So the test itself is a little dumb…some questions aren’t very clear at all, and some are just silly, but it’s kinda fun. Here are my results:

You are a

Social Moderate
(41% permissive)

and an…

Economic Conservative
(88% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Capitalist

Root for the Enemy?

So last night I found myself in a predicament…the Angels were playing the Yanks, and I felt compelled to root for the Angels. Maybe it’s because the playoffs are all in high-definition, but it was a lot of fun to watch. I don’t like the Angels, and the Dodgers will always be my team, but it was fun rooting for them against the Yankees. I also look forward to being done with school and actually being able to watch entire playoff games! Stupid having to go to school during the 3rd inning.

Bug Zapper and Vegas

We live very close to a “nursery,” where they grow plants and stuff. Every now and then there are a lot of bugs hanging out in our backyard, waiting to come in our backdoor. The other day I decided to get a bug zapper! Turns out the zapping part was broken, so all it did was attract all the bugs with its UV light, and then let them hang out on it. Today we took it back and got a different brand, and so far it’s much better, with an overall better design.

Last weekend we took a trip to Vegas and had a good time. Neither of us are big gamblers, so we probably only dropped $10 into the slots and video poker. We did however have a good time blowing lots of money at good buffets and a show. On Friday night we hit up the buffet at the Wynn, and it was awesome. The only prior buffet I’d been to in Vegas was the Golden Nugget, and it was nasty. The Wynn was just over $30, but man was it worth it. Crab legs (which are pretty good), meats, salads, soups, amazing desserts, you name it. Then on Saturday morning we went to the brunch at the Bellagio. They had custom made omelletes, and all sorts of other foods like the Wynn. That night we saw Mama Mia at Mandalay Bay, and it was really good. It’s amazing because they wrote an entire musical around Abba’s songs, and they all fit really great. There were a couple references to marijuana which was annoying, but overall I’d recommend it.

Ok, back to watching the bug zapper. Ohhh, there was a fly sitting on the outside, so I blew on him and it flew into the electrode thingies and got zapped, haha.

Real quick I’d like to vent some frustration over a few things.

1) Clinton appointed Ginsburg, a far left, ACLU loving, pro-choice nut. Now that Bush has the opportunity to bring balance to the court, he picks first Roberts and now Miers. Have some guts Bush and pick a strong conservative! Sure, they might turn out great, but why the mystery candidates? Who cares if Dems don’t like them, I’m sure Republicans didn’t like Ginsburg.

2) Federal spending is WAY too high. What happened to small government? What happened to living within our means? Larry Elder just said that social welfare spending has increased faster under Bush than under LBJ…which I assume means a lot. Republicans on capital hill need to wake up and stop spending our children into the ground.

3) The Border. Illegal aliens are still pouring through our open border everyday. Does Bush or anyone on capital hill do anything about it? Nope. This is an issue that resonates with voters, but no one seems to pay it any mind.

Bush has lost some gusto. Republicans should be reducing government spending, closing our borders, and leveling the courts, but they’re not. This is what Republicans WANT, so wake up.
