Good Grief!

For the last month I’ve been gathering letters of recommendation from the ends of the earth for Cal State Long Beach. I am in the process of applying for their internship program, now that I’ve started teaching. With the application paper in hand, along with every letter I need (6 in all), I headed to the advisor to get my final signature and go ahead. All is well…

…only to find out that CSULB wants to make it “harder” to become an intern. Nevermind this paper I have that I’ve been working on for a month, but they want more “proof” that I’m ready to teach. Nevermind that I’m working at a middle school, and the school thinks I’m capable of teaching. Nevermind that I had to get a ton of signatures just to get into the single subject credential program in the first place!

So I wasted a good 3 hours of my life tonight, just to be told “get one more letter.” Not to mention the advisor never responded to my email from Sunday. If he had I wouldn’t have had to go to school on a night I don’t even have class, just because that is when his office hours are.

Don’t let anyone tell you it is EASY to become a teacher. It’s freaking ridiculous.

What a Shame….

It’s such a shame what the world has come to, where people can’t trust each other anymore. The tragedy and horror in New Orleans is made worse by this latest report. It just makes me sick.

Because One Is Never Enough

So as if I didn’t have enough to do, I now have two websites. I’ve started the task of watching every movie on the IMDB Top 250. It made more sense to make a site solely dedicated to my reviews and updates of that endeavor instead of mixing them in here. I’ll continue to post rants and other dumb things on this site, but feel free to visit the new site as well. You’ll find a link to it over on the right.

Cooking is Fun!

Tonight we busted out our cooking creativity! We made buffalo wings and bbq corn on the cob, and it was freakin’ awesome.

The buffalo wings we baked in the oven, and then doused them with Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Wing sauce. They were super good. A little over done, but we can adjust our cooking times for the next batch.

The bbq corn on the cob was excellent! I took a corn on the cob, put a bunch of butter with lowrys and pepper, then wrapped it in aluminum foil, and put on the bbq for about 20 mins, turning 3 times. This was some of the best corn on the cob I’ve ever had.

All in all it was a yummy dinner, and cooking is a heck of a lot of fun. Now I’m going to go finish watching a Japaenese cartoon, The Castle in the Sky (#249 on the imdb top 250).

I Survived Days 1 and 2! :)

I survived the first 1.5 days of school! Woo Hoo! Haha…really though, it’s not so bad. It’s a lot like subbing, but I have to decide what to do each day. It’s a weird feeling having a real job and knowing/hoping you’ll be doing it for years.

Tonight we’re going out for my Mom’s birthday, mmmm Lucille’s. Hopefully she doesn’t read this in the next hour. I’ve got all kinds of random pictures to post, I’m so behind. Here we go:

Kevin and I went to a Dodger game thanks to Kurtis, and sat in the best seats I’ve ever had…

Stacie and I planted flowers in our little backyard, and it looks so much better with some color…

And then we had people over for Labor Day and tried out the BBQ, lots of fun was had by all…

Alright, I think that makes up for a week or two of really boring posts, I’ll try not to do it again. This week I get to actually start teaching math. Woooo Wooooo.

I Hate Being Busy. :(

This week I start teaching, and college classes start to really get moving, and I hate the feeling. I’m super excited about teaching and getting my school work done, but I can’t stand the feeling of being overwhelmed. It seems like there is so much to do! I keep telling myself it’s just temporary though, and while this year might be tough, it will only get better. Time to take a deep breath. :)

Labor Day Party

Thank you to everyone who came over for a nice evening tonight. I had a lot of fun cooking on the barbeque. :) It was great to see everybody and just enjoy their company. It’s too bad that there isn’t more time in the week to see people you care about and spend time with them. I know that as you get older your circle of friends/loved ones tends to shrink, but it’s still nice to share a meal with friends and family, however many there might be.

I’m disappointed that more people didn’t put jalapenos on their burgers though. Geez, what is wrong with you people? Don’t you want burning diarrhea the next morning? It’s a lot of fun, you should try it.

Dennis Prager Article

Saw this article posted on another site, very good read. Prager is a master of the English language. No word or sentence he writes is superfluous. He is able to say more in a short essay than many say in a book. Read it here.
