The Arcade Cabinet Stands!

I think even we’re surprised that not only does the cabinet stand up, but it’s quite sturdy. Next up is putting on the wheels, and getting the shelf for the TV all set. Then we get to paint! I’m also taking suggestions on what to name it. The best so far was from my sister: Lunacade. :D Check the image gallery for more pictures.

Subwars Are Back!

Many of you enjoyed the the special “Sub Wars” feature in my profile last school year, so I’ve decided to bring it back again this year. I’m currently subbing at Sussman Middle School and eating a Lunchable. I was reminded of how great our school years are, but how little we realized it. We didn’t know the responsibilities or stresses that would await us after High School. Of course along with this have come greater independence and self-reliance. I just hope we can value that before we get old and start to rely on other people. Not that any of this bad…but it’s depressing to look back on life and say “dang I had it good, but right now sucks.” Instead we should look at our current situation and be grateful for all the wonderful things we DO have, for they are many.

Arcade Cabinet Update

Just wanted to let you know that work on the arcade cabinet is still very much underway. This week was spent planning the controls and ordering all the parts we need to finish it off. The plan this weekend is to put together the cabinet’s skeleton and stat painting it. We’ve got a nice high gloss black paint we’re going to use. Stacie wanted purple, but I thought black would be a more “neutral” color. :) I’ll post more pics as I get them!

Dragon’s Lair with unlimited retries = freaking awesome! I always hated that game in the arcade because you’d lose all your lives before you even figured out what you were supposed to do! :-p

Oh My Poor Dodgers!

Well, the Dodgers are sure gonna make the last couple weeks of baseball’s regular season exciting. In losing fashion, the Dodgers have let the Giants within a half game of the NL West lead. To make things worse, it looks like Brad Penny is still hurt and going to do us no good. Oh well, let’s hope the Dodgers can climb out of the slump just in time to woop the Giants. I really wish I had Fox Sports right now.

Miss America

Last night, primarily because nothing better was on, I ended up watching a majority of the Miss America Pageant. We had a great time discussing how pointless the whole thing is.

1) One of the contestants referred to the pageant as a job! Now granted, I’ve never been crowned Miss America…but I’m not sure it’s a "job." They go and make public appearances throughout the year…but what for? It’s not like they accomplished anything of actual value. That leads to the next point.

2) What exactly do they win for? Being the best at wearing clothes? How on earth is that a worthwhile competition? Oooh, look at me, I can wear a dress better than you! Wow, what a waste of time. What’s even more amazing is how important the women think the whole process is. How did wearing a swimsuit in heels become some major accomplishment?

3) And the best reason Miss America should be cast off the planet: too much eye-makeup.

This recent story about John Kerry really struck me as odd. If you read it, you’ll see that John Kerry is claiming President Bush will call up more troops after he gets elected in November. The article goes on to show several people who have no idea what he’s talking about, and one person who claims he’s heard about this. Not surprisingly that person is a Democrat, but we’ll come back to that.

I’ve found it to be a constantly recurring theme that I must decipher and critically think about everything people say this election year. If John Kerry says President Bush is fighting the “wrong” war, what does that mean? John Kerry supported the war at one point, so does he just not like the way it’s turning out? Or is he trying to separate himself from Bush? What the evening news doesn’t tell you is that Kerry has had a 100 stances on the war in Iraq. It stems all the way back to the Democratic primaries. Good ‘ol Howard Deam was completely anti-war, so to distinguish himself from Dean, Kerry was pro-war. Well, Kerry won that battle…but now he’s got a problem: Bush is pro-war…and he can’t have the exact same stance on one of the most important issues to voters. Therefore, like he did in the Democratic primaries, he’s trying to find a new stance to “market” himself. If you don’t believe me check out www.kerryoniraq.com.

Something else in that article that blows me away is when Kerry says “Doesn’t George Bush watch the evening news?!” In other words, doesn’t President Bush see the body count reported every night?. This is an important point, because I think it’s what separates Liberals from Conservatives. Liberals think primarily with their emotions, and Conservatives think primarily with their brain. A Liberal can’t look at Iraq, see a death toll, and then decide “is it worth it?” Instead they just gawk and wail that a US Soldier died. I’m not demeaning the value of life, and in fact I’d say that is what the liberals are doing. I say when a soldier dies they have served their country and worked to secure freedom in Iraq. A liberal on the other hand will say they died fighting a pointless war and it’s all President Bush’s fault. They can’t even support our troops now because that’s indirectly supporting Bush.

Ultimately I think the majority of voters will be able to decipher all the coded messages being transmitted this election year. Democrats have been hoping for Iraq to turn into Vietnam, but that’s not happening. Republicans have been wanting the economy to boom like crazy, but I’d say it’s just in a regular recovery. In the end, look at what people say and decide for yourself if it’s the truth. You’ll be smarter for it.

How to Cross the Street LYKWYD

I’ve decided to start a recurring series of posts entitled: “Like You Know What You’re Doing.” The purpose is to show how you can be super cool and look like you know what you’re doing in everday situations.

How to Cross the Street LYKWYD

Seeing how many of my readers are still pre-automobile, I thought I’d explain how you can cross the street and look cool at the same time. The first and most important part of crossing the street is having confidence. If you look like you don’t know what you’re doing, people will assume you don’t. So, as you walk up to the crosswalk, keep your head held high. If you’re at a stop sign, begin walking as soon as possible. This will make it look like you’re confident cars will stop, making you appear stronger. You can be almost certain they’ll stop, because people don’t want to go to jail. And whatever you do, don’t make eye contact with anyone that approaches the intersection, it will just show fear.

If you’re at an intersection with a stoplight, you need to be ready. How you approach the “push to walk” button is very important. If you stand and push it many times, you’ll look like a dork, because everyone knows that doesn’t make it change faster. If you push the button, wait a minute, and then press it again, it shows you have second guessed your first push. The best way is to push the button once and wait. The light will change, and people will see that you are an expert street crosser.
